2020 STANDARD RACE RULES

General Rules:  
General Rules apply to all sleds in all classes!
  1. Tech Vest or Chest Protector. (suggested not required)
  2. Orange Helmet or Orange Vest Mandatory.
  3. Must have working tether.
  4. Headlight must be taped over or removed.
  5. Snow flap must be tied down and within 1" of ground with driver on seat.
  6. Must have working brake and functioning tail light.( bicycle type ok).
  7. Handlebar hooks allowed in all classes.
  8. Foam Ski Padding will be used on Ski tips.
  9. Ski spreaders allowed, 3” max per side.
  10. All machines will have traction control in the track & carbide on the Skiis 
  11. Picks & Studs must be 3/8" above top of lug.  Cleated tracks must also have picks or studs. Number of picks/studs should match horse power of sled for best handling & performance
  12. Ski Carbide length may be up to 10” max.  Carbide length should match horse power for best handing & performance
  13. 8" Vinyl style numbers required on both sides of hood & front, windshield acceptable also
  14. Top 3 sleds may be re-teched immediately following race, (see too fast for class rule).
  15. Snowmobile stands w/3sided protective enclosures will be used at ALL times when machines track is off the ground, being teched, repaired or clearing the track. NO raising the machine, "gunning" the engine even at the start line! This is a MAJOR safety issue!
  16. Working fire extinguisher readily available in case of a fire in pit area.
  17. All sleds teching in will be teched in the staging area only. Tech-in times are Fri. night from 3pm till dark & Saturday from 8-10am Race day. There is a cut-off time for tech-in. anyone not in line at the end of this cut-off point will not be teched in. Please be on time!
  18. The main function for “Tech-in” is for safety verification, & visual class placement.It will be the driver's responsibility to ensure his or her sled is correctly placed. Please help our volunteer Tech’s place your Race Sled in the proper class.Tech-in is not intended to catch those who are deliberately trying to cheat and run with an unfair advantage. Forfeiture may occur if incorrect sleds placed and are re-teched after the race. See “too fast for class rule”.
  19. Snowmobile Age, Chassis dates for Snowmobiles 1974 & older classes must be Manufactured before July 1974.  Anything manufactured after that will have to race the 1980 and older classes.
  20. Snowmobile Age, Chassis dates for Snowmobiles 1980  & older classes must be Manufatured before July 1980.  Anything manufactured after that date is considered 1981 and will not be able to run.
  
 
Max overbore allowed is .020 in all classes. ( we have new equipment to check bore size and porting by looking through plug hole or ports ).
 
Stock Class Clarifications:

  1. Must be Factory trail Stock sled
  2. No Wahl's Brothers aftermarket suspensions.
  3. tracks and suspensions but must be of same manufacture
  4. Factory Leaf spring style skis only native to each brand
  5. No reed valve motors
  6. No twin pipes allowed.
  7. Can type mufflers on singles
  8. “Y” pipe into single stock pipe on twins.
  9. Stock pipes Factory original equipment only.
  10. No power block clutches
  11. Close faced style Comet clutches allowed in the 1974 & older classes.
  12. No performance, sno-pro or modified parts allowed.
  13. No Modified or Production Race Engines allowed in the Stock Class’s
  14. Arctic Cat Eltigres may use a 1975 internal drive track, Due to availability of the stock track.
  15. No porting or polishing. (Equipment available to check for violations) see “too fast for class” rule.
  16. Engine’s that have been modified in any way shall be entered into the improved class
  17. Snowmobile engines and parts only.
  18. All parts must be of same original manufacture. Except clutches.
  19. Decisions on Race classification will be up to the full discretion of the Tech crew upon inspection of your sled during tech in times.
  20. No Handlebar risers allowed
  21. Plus all General Rules.
 
Improved Class Clarification:
  1. Leaf springs only. No Northstar skiis allowed. Except 1980 Improved classes2Any Seat, shape & size allowed.
  2. Twin modified Pipes allowed.
  3. Reed valve engines allowed
  4. Handle bar risers allowed.
  5. No motorcycle quick change clamps bars.
  6. Port and polishing acceptable.
  7. Max overbore allowed is .020
  8. All parts must be brand specific to the Sled you are racing
  9. Mix and match motors acceptable.
  10. Tracks and suspensions but must be specific to the Sled you are racing.
  11. 1974 and older and from same manufacture. (except Eltigre's. See stock class).
  12. No Northstar Skiis allowed except in the 1980 and older Improved classes.
  13. 120cc improved class must have a 120cc snowmobile engine, No Aftermarket engines allowed in this class.
  14. 120cc mod class, Aftermarket engines allowed.
  15. Plus all General Rules.
 
Too Fast for Class Rule:    
                 Immediately following the Race the top 3 Divers may be immediately directed to the infield to Re-tech if obvious violations of Class rules,  over modification, or incorrect classing of sled is noticed.  Anyone refusing to re-tech will automatically be disqualified!  This is to only insure a fair race.  All decisions made by the Marion clubs officials are final, there will be NO protests.
 
 
 
THE 11TH EDITION INTERTECH SNOWMOBILE MANUAL WILL BE USED TO VERIFY MACHINES IN THE STOCK CLASSES. OTHER PRODUCTION INFORMATION MAY BE UTILIZED. MACHINES SHOULD BE STOCK APPEARING, CORRECT HOOD, SEAT, SKIS ECT.
VERIFY THAT THE ENGINE IN YOUR MACHINE WAS MANUFACTURED FOR THAT YEAR AND MODEL OF CHASSIS. VERIFY THAT YOUR MOTOR IS NOT A FACTORY RACE MOTOR, EXAMPLE, SACHS SS OR C TYPE MOTORS. ANYONE CAUGHT AFTER THE RACE WITH A NON-STOCK SETUP WILL BE DISQUALIFIED AND THE NEXT RUNNER UP WILL RECIEVE THE TROPHY.

THE ABOVE RACE CLASSES ARE VIEWED AS A "FUN RACES" FOR THE ENTHUSIAST, INDIVIDUALS JUST TRYING TO HAVE A GOOD TIME! LETS ALL HELP IN SUPPORTING THAT GOAL!  WE ALL HAVE TO GO BACK TO WORK ON MONDAY AND ARE JUST RACING FOR A PLASTIC TROHPY!  LETS ALL KEEP EVERYONE’S SAFETY FIRST AND FORMOST!
